Harriet was the daughter of Thomas Blundell and Maria Brooker who immigrated to Australia in June 1838 on the Westminster with their infant daughter Mary Ann. Thomas had stated his calling as a gardener on his immigration papers. They took up land at Razorback near Picton.
Harriet married David Doust at Cawder in 1875. Their five sons were born in Cawdor. In the late 1800s they moved to the Toogong area where they were to settle into the faming life. Their eldest son, George moving further afield to the Tullamore/Fifield district.
Harriet saw her youngest son off to war in 1916, she passed away before learning of his death in combat in 1918.
Harriet’s obituary states that her name was synonymous with industry and integrity and that she enjoyed the respect of the district.
Harriet’s husband died in Camden, her eldest son in Fifield, her youngest in France. She finds herself alone in this little corner of the world, however, she was cherished and loved by her men.
